Best movies to watch this week

“My mama always said life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.” -Forrest Gump, 1994.

Movies both entertain and inspire us. How do you decide if some movie is a good movie? for me, a film becomes good when I become part of it while watching.
I am neither reviewing movies nor am I rating them. I am just listing a few of my best films, which you would love to watch this week.

9>The others(2001):-

Few of us wanted to see something which has both thrill and horror components in it. We searched on IMDB and randomly selected The others. We didn’t talk during the whole movie. After the movie got over, we saw each other with awe filling, and there was pin-drop silence for the next 10 minutes as we were contemplating what just happened. The last 10 minutes will change your perception of this movie from average to brilliant.

8>Masaan:-

Pencil drawing of Don Quixote

“Sitaroon ko aankhon mein mehfuz rakhna,Badi der tak raat hogi,Musaafir hai hum bhi…Musaafir ho tum bhi…Kisi mod par phir mulaakaat hogi.”

— Masaan

This movie melts together two stories to showcase emotions integral to our life. This film is about love floating over the river of judgment; it’s about enduring pain, it’s about not holding anything thing too tight, it’s about the river which keeps moving.

7>Baishe Srabon:-

During my college days, I fell in love with Tollywood. From Rabindra sangeet to Amar Vin Deshi Tara and from Pather Panchali to Feluda. Tollywood has a plethora of excellent movies and songs. Baishe Srabon is one of my favorites. If I have to review this movie in one line, I would say, “This movie is a delightful poetic thriller.”

6>Into The Wild

Soothing songs, calming scenic beauty, and excellent storyline. This movie has compelled me to pack my bags and head for the shadow of mountains and sing, “Society, you’re a crazy breed; I hope you’re not lonely without me.”
I have learned from this movie that you don’t chase love; it’s something around you. Love people, share the joy with others, celebrate. Things may not be perfect, but love is.
Someone has brilliantly said.

"ye maanā zindagī hai chaar din kī
bahut hote haiñ yaaro chaar din bhī"

5>Saving Private Ryan:-

When was the last time you felt good about anything?

Saving Private Ryan is a 1998 American epic war film directed by Steven Spielberg. You can’t miss few movies; missing such a movie is equivalent to committing a crime. Saving Private Ryan is one such movie. The brilliance of Tom Hanks, his eyes, talks more than him. Saving Private Ryan is the second-best war movie ever made; the first is Border.

4>Schindler’s List

The character of this movie saves many Jewish refugees from the Holocaust. Produced by non-other than Steven Spielberg, Liam Neeson is a character who doesn’t care but cares. The movie showcase the injustice meted out to the Jewish community during the second world war.

“Power is when we have every justification to kill, and we don’t.”

3>Dead Poets Society:-

“We don’t read and write poetry because it’s cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for”.

Dead Poets Society.

This 1989 movie is must watch for every teacher. There are very few movies that entertain and inspire you simultaneously; Dead Poet Society is one such movie. It gives a fillip to your courage of writing your life script, following your dream.

2>The Silence of the lambs:-

All good things to those who wait

No one could forget The scene from the movie Sangharsh where Ashutosh Rana does the shrill scream. His spine-chilling yell is still instilled in our memories.

Sangharsh took inspiration from Jonathan Demme’s classic crime-thriller, The Silence of The Lambs.

It has won all five major Academy Awards and is one of the Greatest Thrillers of all time. You might have to rewind many times to understand what point Dr. Hannibal Lecter is trying to make. For me, it was a thrilling and, at the same time, difficult movie to watch, but it’s worth watching.

1>12 Angry Men:-

“It takes a great deal of courage to stand alone even if you believe in something very strongly.”

“Facts may be colored by the personalities of the people who present them.”

How could you complete a movie in a room? This movie is a masterpiece. Riding on the belief that a person is innocent until proven guilty, this movie is must watch for every media house of our country. It starts with space where you believe in something and ends where you conflict with yourself.

This movie has suspense, humour, thrill, Acting, comedy, emotions etc, etc all encapsulated in one single room. Every character is a reflection of our society where we live. It has judgement, compassion, greed, generosity, revenge, forgiveness, self doubt, confidence.

It is simple at its best.

Best movies to watch this week are just a sample of many great films. I encourage you to comment below on your favorite.
